A Hog Chat with Kenny Smith & Margus Riga – Behind the Scenes of a Backcountry Adventure

Entertaining insight into high-consequence hoggin'.

Good stories are half the point of a big adventure, right? If pushing the needle on what’s possible in the backcountry gives one the right to reminisce, then the crew from ‘Come Hell or Hogwater’ have earned a full-time job around the campfire; where the conversations inevitably fill with sentences starting with “Remember when” and “That one time…”

The team had quite the bike “ride” on their trip last fall somewhere between the Chilcotin and Coast mountains in BC, and so we jumped at the chance to have a sit-down with Kenny Smith and Margus Riga, two-fifths of the intrepid team, for a chat about some of the big moments on their trip. The guys talk through the resulting photos from Riga’s camera, reflect on one of the more terrifying hours’ they’ve had in a decade of doing this, and have some laughs reflecting on the things their friends have learned not to bring in the bag on a big push bike mission.
