Granite Design Introduces Portaledge and Portaledge SE Tube Straps

We've found the affordable bolt-on tube holders

Our bikes are finally reacting to our desire to carry less on our backs and more on our bikes. There are a growing number of frames that offer two water bottles and, when they can’t, some are including bosses specifically for carrying accessories. Many of Pivot’s frames include a couple bolts just in front of the seat tube, Forbidden places them just behind the head tube, and Guerrilla Gravity puts them just in front of the bottom bracket. These are usually too tight to fit a water bottle, but you can carry a small load like an inner tube or a compact essentials bag.

The thing is, this trend is still too niche to have caught the attention of many accessories brands. As our new colleague, Mike Kazimer pointed out recently, nobody makes an affordable dedicated gear strap. But today, Granite Design has done just that. For $17, you can get the Portaledge a well-designed alloy plate that will bolt to your frame’s accessory port or unused bottle mount.

Or, if your bottle mount is already taken up by … a bottle, the Portaledge SE mounts under your bottle and will put an offset cargo strap just below it, as well as allow for some customization in your bottle position. The Portaledge SE goes for $22.
