Kids Ride Shotgun Launches New Pro Seat

The new version avoids all frame contact, and is compatible with more types of mountain bikes

Two years after Kids Ride Shotgun debuted its no-harness toptube seat for kids in the U.S., the New Zealand brand is back with an updated version: the Pro.

The Pro takes the concept of the original seats and expands it so that there’s no contact between the kids’ saddle and frame’s toptube with a mechanism that also makes it compatible with the larger downtubes on eMTBs. It works much like the original seat, in which the child has their own saddle in front of the adult rider, and foot straps to keep ’em seated (theoretically). Unlike the original seat, the Pro does not integrate kid-sized handlebars, and instead tots share the bike’s primary bars.

“We had a great response to our original frame mounted seat, with thousands of families hitting the trails around the globe – but we’ve struggled to make our frame mounted version suitable for eMTBs. There are also still some parents out there with high-end carbon bikes that prefer not to have a child seat contacting their frame, and that’s why we developed our pro model,” the brand said in a press release.

In terms of bike compatibility, the Shotgun Pro fits all mountain bikes with standard 1 1/8 steerers, which is the vast majority of modern bikes. And so that parents can share the toddler-towing duties, two headset spacers are included with the product, allowing for quick switching between bikes. The rear of the Shotgun Pro attaches to all common seat post sizes, and is dropper-post friendly.

“When developing the Shotgun Pro, we wanted to avoid frame contact, which led us to a couple of obvious mounting points. We’re happy to admit that we’re not the first to mount a child seat between the stem and seatpost. In fact, the first designs date back to the ’90s, but what is unique about our seat is the clever range of adjustment. Common adjustments like leg and saddle angle are all tool-free, making them super quick trail-side adjustments for parents.”

The Pro seat runs $250 and is sold at KRS retailers. Learn more about where to find one here.
